KAP Study on Maternal, Adolescent, Sexual and Reproductive Health-seeking Behaviour, Utilization of Services and Evaluation of Gaps to Influence Health Outcomes in Seven Districts in Rwanda

The knowledge, attitudes and practices (KAP) study looked at maternal, neonatal, adolescent, sexual and reproductive health in the seven districts in Rwanda (Gakenke, Gisagara, Karongi, Nyamasheke, Nyarugenge, Rulindo, and Rusizi) where the BARAME project, financed by ENABEL is implemented.

The study focused a population aged 25-49 years, disaggregated by demographic characteristics including age groups (25-34 years, 35-39 years, 40-44 years, 45-49 years), residence, education level and socio-economic classification. The main objective of the KAP study was to orient communication and awareness strategies to (i) increase knowledge of the community about their rights and about the services on maternal, neonatal, adolescent, sexual and reproductive health; (ii) increase the use of different services; to finally (iii) better influence the health outcomes in the seven districts supported by Barame in Rwanda. The second objective of the work was to generate baseline data set (progress indicator) in the seven districts of intervention that will inform on progress, after the implementation of more targeted communication and awareness strategies.
